Alan is a Meisner trained teacher/actor, working with actors on all levels for 23 years. He began acting in Brooklyn College where he wrote, directed and acted in both scripted and improvised vignettes. After graduating Brooklyn College he performed in an Off-Broadway ensemble piece entitled “Video Madness”. After VM wrapped he began his formal training with Stephen Strimpell (Meisner Techique and Improv), French actor Christian Aubert and Tim Phillips (Advanced scene study and audition technique). During this period he landed principal roles in “Law And Order”, “Kiss Of Death” and “The City”, and performed in numerous Off-Off Broadway plays, student films and low budget indie films. He also produced, directed and acted in several AEA approved showcases and wrote and directed several one-act plays “The Old Dutch”, and “Rockaway”, for the Shortened Attention Span festival, and “Closing Time”, a one-act he wrote and directed for the Queens Playwrights Festival. He just finished directing “Closer” by Patrick Marber, for The Seeing Place Theatre.
In addition to hisTuesday Meisner Technique class and his Wednesday Scene Study class he also coaches privately and has worked with actors, Lauren Velez, “Dexter”, “Oz”,” Resurrection Boulevard”, “The Vagina Monologues” , Sonja Sohn, “The Wire”, Tony Award winner Lilias White, Matthew Sussman, “Angels In America”, “Pollack”, “The Sopranos”, Lou Martini, Jr. “The Sopranos”, and Ivan Goris who just landed a starring role in the new HBO pilot “Uptown” . Alan has taught for, Actors Technique New York, The Newtwork, On-camera for Stone Street Studios and Intro To Acting for The School Of Visual Art.
Most recently he created an App which is available now on iPhones and iPads called Audition Assist- A Guide for Actors, which provides actors with essential tools to help them give their best at their auditions.
